If you’ve ever suffered anxiety, low mood and fatigue it’s vital to look at the people you spend the most time with.
You may have heard the saying…
“Your personality influences your personal reality”
That’s not just yours, but the personality of the people around you.
In-person and online.
My journey has led to a lot of time contemplating personality types, emotions and how they impact my health.
I’ve looked at the radiators in my life, many good pals are medicinal to me.
This reflection has led to a funny realisation.
One of my oldest friends is Kate, here we are as kids.
Despite a few gaps in friendship, when we talk it’s like we spoke yesterday.
As teens, we’d spend all day together then go home and run up £100 phone bills talking into the night.
I can still remember her home phone number!
We both believe one day we’ll return to our favourite town, Sandbach, and spend our final days gossiping in the garden about that time when…
We’re different.
She’s an extrovert, every room she enters lights up as she radiates energy, kindness and humour.
She eases my seriousness and anxiety and makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.
If I’m with her, my confidence doubles. I can do anything, go anywhere and talk to anyone.
Here we are a few years ago with a George Michael tribute act…
Equally, my love of studying and exercising meant I’ve coached her through tree climbing, rope swinging, exam-induced anxiety, and health fears and reassured her life is amazing and she’s all good.
We both ended up with partners called Matt.
My Matt is an extrovert, every room he enters lights up as he radiates energy, kindness and humour.
Deja vu?
Her Matt is introverted, he loves running and working quietly for hours.
Remind you of anyone?
We found the Matt version of ourselves!
When my Matt and Kate get together it’s hilarious.
They dive into endless chatter, ice cream, gossiping and non-stop banter.
Her Matt and I sometimes just leave them to it as we need some quiet time.
It works because despite our differences we all love, support and are the ultimate cheerleaders for each other.
We bring different skills to the party, but all need each other for our best lives.
I’m sharing this lovely realisation to help you to check in on your team and ensure they bring out the best in you.
Opposites can attract but just make sure they aways have your back and are your biggest supporters.
