They Say A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words

Matt Grit Check Challenge July 21

They say a picture speaks a thousand words but just one springs to mind here… FOOKED 😂

I was almost halfway through the 24 hour Grit Check challenge and being about 1000 cleans and 20 miles deep will do that to you!

As you know this event was to raise money for charity so there was absolutely no way on this earth I was stopping.

Even when I felt drained and the thought of another clean or another 2 miles filled me with dread I kept going.

Even when those around me started to flag too, the night got darker and numbers started dropping, I kept going.

Even when stringing a sentence together and trying to motivate others became a big ask I kept going.

Why? Because I had the biggest sense of purpose I have had for a long time.

It wasn’t about me, it was about the charities, it was about doing everyone who donated proud. It was about showing what I was made of and inspiring people.

Despite doing the challenge with NO SLEEP (and going on to win with 48 miles completed, racking up over 2000 points, WAHOO) it might surprise you to know I sometimes struggle to complete what are in comparison incredibly simple tasks. Ones that would take a fraction of the time, a lot less effort, and certainly wouldn’t require staying awake for 24 hours!

Why? Because they lack purpose, it’s just something that needs to be done.

I’m not saying that everything we do has to be bursting at the seams with purpose but I am saying that it’s phenomenal what we can achieve physically and mentally when we put our minds to it and have purpose behind the WHY.

But even doing something with purpose doesn’t make it easy, so surrounding yourself with the right people is vital.

If it wasn’t for the amazing people I was doing this event with, the generous donations, and the truly wonderful messages of support this would have been a very different 24hrs.

This is why I want to leave you with a quote from a TV show called Godfather of Harlem that I watched right after the challenge.

“In order to do your best work, you must surround yourself with the best people, and you are the best people.”

Find your purpose, surround yourself with the best people whilst being the best person you can to others too, and trust me you will do amazing things.

The donation page is still open and I am so close to hitting the £3k mark which is insane so please, if you can spare anything at all it would mean the world. As a collective though we have raised over £32k. WOW.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. Full details of the event and who we are raising money for can be found here.
